We’re hosting our own conference!

logo.JPGThe Brandon Hall Research Innovations in Learning Conference in September is just the type of conference I was looking for when working as a learning professional in the insurance industry. With budgets always under scrutiny I was pretty much limited to attending just one conference per year.

The best part of any conference for me was networking. I still stay in contact with people I met at conferences over the years. The discussion at breaks and over lunch or dinner was where I learned the most. Regrettably, I lived through 100s of PowerPoint presentations at the conferences that were not horribly meaningful. Talking about great e-learning using bullet points was the ultimate irony.

Losing the boring presentation conference model is what makes the Brandon Hall Research Innovations in Learning Conference so appealing – it’s all about hands-on activities and networking around the most innovative technologies in the industry.

As a practitioner, I always struggled to find time to learn how to blog / wiki / podcast / create video, make my own avatar, etc. The day-to-day stuff had to get done first. That’s why this conference is so appealing and different. It provides a way to actually learn how to use (and how others use) all the new technology. It’s not just ‘tell‘ or even’tell-show‘ it’s ‘tell-show-do,’ There’s no better way to learn! I hope you’ll be able to join us.

Looks like a great conference. Alas, the airfare is more than my convention allowance for the next 3 years! I’ll watch for the update after.

Too funny. I’ll be blogging about it so stay tuned. Perhaps we can scrape up some frequent flyer miles for you. : )
